Production Notes |
Distilled, aged, and bottled on location at the distillery in Lovington, VA. No color added, non chill-filtered, and never any additives.
The highest quality malted barley and fresh spring water from the Blue Ridge Mountains is distilled in hand-hammered copper pot stills.
The distillate is then aged in a combination of Bourbon, Sherry, and Cuvée casks. The Cuvée casks, sourced from premium European red wine producers, are prepared according to a special method developed by Dr. Jim Swan, employed by only a handful of distilleries in the world. Before being filled they are broken down, shaved, re-toasted, and re-charred, then reassembled, bringing forth an incredible depth of aroma and flavor that is imparted into the liquid.
Courage & Conviction is aged for a minimum of three years, but drinks like a whisky that's been aged much longer. (Find out why below.)
Virginia Distillery Co. is dedicated to full transparency, education, and empowerment for the knowledge-seeking whisky drinker. You'll find on its website a full analysis of the many production dimensions of each Courage & Conviction batch.

Terroir |
Virginia has a true four season climate, which greatly influences barrel aging. Hot summers and cool winters result in more frequent contraction and expansion of the casks. More interaction between barrel stave and spirit means complexity, depth of flavor and aroma develop at a quicker pace than you find in Old World whisky. This is why a whisky that's considered relatively "young" by Scotch standards can carry such exceptional flavor, depth, and nuance.

Founder Facts |
Virginia Distillery Co. began as the lifelong dream of its founder, Dr. George G. Moore. Dr. Moore was one of the most successful Irish-American businessmen of his generation.
The distillery was founded in 2011, and has spent nearly the last decade preparing for the launch of its first full release, the culmination of Dr. Moore's dream.
Having the courage of one's convictions was Dr. Moore's life-orienting philosophy, and the bottle honors this ethos in its name, a tribute to this remarkable man.
