750ml & 64 Proof
||Clear and bright, this cherry-flavored liqueur has an aroma more reminiscent of an eau de vie than a liqueur. On the palate, however, its texture is creamy and viscous. Its flavor is sugary up front, with an underlying heat, and a vibrant cherry flavor that shines through. While it might prove a bit too thick and sweet to drink on its own, it's obvious why this liqueur plays an essential supporting role in classic cocktails like the Last Word and Aviation.

This clear cherry liqueur is made from Sour Marasca cherries which are cultivated exclusively by the Luxardo family in the orchards of the Euganean Hills in Veneto. It is still produced according to a special formula created by Girolamo Luxardo in 1821.
Each summer starts with the cherry harvest, where the cherries, including the stones, branches and leaves are placed in larchwood vats for two years and infused with neutral alcohol. This infusion, including the solids, is distilled. Then the heart of the cherry distillate is aged in large Finnish ash wood vats for a 12-18 months.
Luxardo is a family-owned company founded in Zara, a port city on the Dalmatian coast of what is now Croatia. Girolamo Luxardo founded the Luxardo Distillery in 1821 to produce his wife’s original Maraschino liqueur.
Only one member of the fourth generation, Giorgio Luxardo, survived the World War II invasion and fled to Italy. Escaping with only a cherry sapling, Giorgio crossed the Adriatic Sea to the Veneto region of northeast Italy and reconnected with a colleague who had saved the Luxardo recipe book.
Luxardo continues to produce Maraschino to Maria Canevari’s original recipe, as it was written down in 1821. Today, Luxardo is operated by Franco Luxardo of the family’s fifth generation, along with members of the sixth.
