Production Notes

As is common across US bourbon production, Sagamore's current releases are made from rye whiskey sourced from MGP. However, unlike many who just bottle the standard 95/5 MGP rye recipe, Sagamore blends whiskey from multiple MGP rye mashbills to create their signature bottles and flavors.

The Cask Strength is an undisclosed blend of two sourced MGP rye mashbills which have been aged between 4-5 years– one with a high-rye content and one with a low rye content – in proprietary proportions.

Prior to Prohibition, Maryland was known as the center of rye whiskey production in the US. Many modern producers claim that the style of rye Maryland is known for - sweeter, with a higher proportion of corn - is what the original template for bourbon (no less than 51% corn) is based on.

Founder Facts

Sagamore Farm is renowned for its racing horses, and now it boasts a distillery, too. Sagamore Distillery was one of the first distilleries to open in Maryland since Prohibition. They officially started producing their own Maryland rye whiskey in 2017; their first releases of it are expected to come later in the year.
