About Cocchi Americano Bianco

This Italian aperitif wine straddles the line between wine and spirits in the most delicious way. Simplicity and authenticity is the Cocchi style, and there's little that's more authentic than an Italian aromatized wine recipe that's made exactly the same way since 1891. Cocchi Americano Bianco has a pleasing bitter note that makes it complex enough to sip on ice with a splash of soda and a slice of orange, and robust enough to stand up to all manner of cocktail, adding that just-so flavor that makes it a cut above the usual.

An essential for any home bar.

Tasting Notes

Crisp, citrus. On the nose notes of orange zest, orange flower and elderflower. The sweetness of honey, the bitter of quinine (cinchona), and the bright acidity of lemon. The bitter is delicate, and it persists without dominating. The finish is wine-like, long and nuanced.

Suggested Serves

Classic: A truly great drink, the Corpse Reviver #2 calls for Cocchi Americano Bianco - no substitutes

Unexpected: This plays very well with mezcal. Try two parts mezcal, 1/2 part Cocchi Americano, and 1/2 part dry vermouth with a dash of grapefruit bitters. Stir over ice and strain.

Recommended By Anders Erickson

"Cocchi Americano Bianco has a fruity sweetness up front with a soft bitterness on the finish. One of my favorite bottles to mix with, but I'm also happy just having it with a splash of soda."

Production Notes

Cocchi Americano Bianco starts with Moscato di Asti, a sweet white wine, which is fortified with brandy, and then flavored with cinchona bark, citrus peel, gentian, wormwood, elderflower, and other spices and botanicals for wonderful depth and nuance.

What is lesser known is that Cocchi Americano Bianco is considered by many to be the closest thing you can now get to what used to be called Kina Lillet, a key ingredient in both iconic cocktails The Vesper and The Corpse Reviver #2. Kina Lillet was reformulated in 1986 and renamed Lillet Blanc, dropping the key bittering aromatic that gave it its distinctiveness. Cocchi American Bianco now fills in that gap, and deliciously so.
